Made with a shortcut using a cake mix, this easy and delicious dessert features a creamy pumpkin filling with warm spices nestled between a buttery streusel crust and topping. Customize with your favourite toppings like whipped cream, caramel sauce, or chopped nuts for a perfect autumn treat. Perfect for gatherings or a cozy night in, these Pumpkin Pie Squares are sure to impress and satisfy your seasonal cravings!


  • 1 can of pumpkin or 2 cups of fresh pumpkin puree (Make sure to strain off excess moisture from the puree)
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 can of evaporated milk
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup soft margarine
  • 1 yellow cake mix or other cake mix flavour of your choice
  • Chopped nuts, whipped cream, caramel sauce, or other toppings of your choice (optional)


  1. Preheat your oven to 350℉.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the pumpkin, eggs, evaporated milk, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and salt. Optionally, you can substitute 1/2 cup of brown sugar for 1/2 cup of maple syrup or Honey for alternative flavour options. Mix well and set aside.
  3. Lightly grease a 9x13 cake pan.
  4. Mix the soft margarine and cake mix in a separate bowl until crumbly. Optional cake mixes are Spice, gingerbread or Lemon, to name a few.
  5. Press half of the cake mix streusel into the bottom of the greased cake pan to form the crust.
  6. Pour the pumpkin mixture over the crust in the cake pan.
  7. Sprinkle the remainder of the cake mix streusel over the top of the pumpkin mixture.
  8. Optionally, sprinkle chopped nuts on top for added texture and flavour.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-60 minutes or until an inserted knife comes out clean. Be careful not to overcook.
  10. Once done, remove from the oven and allow the Pumpkin Pie Squares to cool before serving.
  11. Optionally, serve chilled or at room temperature with whipped cream, caramel sauce, or other toppings of your choice.
